Research collated by teacher recruitment service Edustaff has revealed teaching as one of the most rewarding, yet stressful, careers to be involved with over the Christmas period. Researchers found that although 85% of teachers loved their jobs, the stresses and workload of the classroom, especially over the festive period, was a leading factor as to why many decided to leave the profession.
To help take the pressure off of our hard working teachers this festive season, Edustaff have created the “Christmas term survival guide” designed as a stress busting go to document filled with tricks and tips to take the pressure of the winter period. As with everything in life, things can get a bit stressful at times, and with the added pressures of things like Christmas plays and over excited children, even the best teaching staff can find it challenging to stay on top of things.
Being a teacher ranks in the top 3 happiest jobs, alongside gardeners and PAs according to nine different surveys from the Cabinet Office, Career Bliss, Gallop and The Guardian, to name a few. How can it be then, that researchers from the University of Liverpool collected data on stress levels from 25,352 employees working in 24 different occupations and teaching and social work appeared in the top three for both poor psychological wellbeing and physical ill health? It is possible to have job satisfaction in a career that causes so much stress?
Edustaff have turned some of their favourite pieces of advice into sharable data cards. We have included a couple here, but see more by viewing the Christmas term survival guide.
