If 2020 has taught us anything is the fact that we really need to hold our loved ones close. It has also highlighted the importance of understanding how key health and hygiene is to everyone’s well being. Read on to discover top tips to help you keep your family safe at home.

Wash your hands

This is one of the most important ways to ensure that your family stays safe and hygienic in your home. Make sure your family knows how to wash your hands properly and that everyone washes their hands regularly; especially at times such as:

  • When returning home from being outside, particularly when shopping, or attending hospital or doctor’s appointments.
  • Before preparing any food.
  • After preparing food, particularly raw meats, fish and egg.
  • Before eating meals.
  • After using the toilet and changing baby nappies.

Don’t forget to shower (or bathe!)

Whilst you do not need to do so every day, you should be doing so regularly. Your skin is constantly shedding, and unlike snake who can just slither away in their new skin, you need to wash the old, dead skin away. You should wash your hair every 2-3 days, so bathing at these times is a good idea. You should also wash after:

Returning home from work or long days away from the home where you find yourself getting dirty such as hiking.

Getting sweaty, for example if you have been working out.

Brush those pearly whites

This will not only keep your dentist happy, it will also ensure you keep your teeth and gums healthy and in the best condition. It may be preferable to avoid fizzy drinks and sugary foods but we all love to indulge every now and again so make sure you’re taking extra good care of your teeth when you do. Brushing and flossing regularly will keep your mouth bacteria in check to help prevent tooth decay and gum disease.

Catch it, kill it, bin it

It’s a turn of phrase that most everyone has probably heard (especially in recent times!) but it ‘s one of the most important ways to stop the spread of any germs within your home. When sneezing or coughing, always try to do so into a tissue, which can be binned. Take care to thoroughly wash your hands afterwards.

Try to ensure your family gets plenty of sleep

Did you know that a lack of sleep compromises your immune system? To ensure everyone is feeling in tip top shape and ready for the day, get an early night or sleep in! Wondering how much sleep do you need? Adults need on average 7-9 hours of sleep, whilst children need 8-17 hours depending on their age.

Staying safe is at the forefront of everyone’s minds right now, and it’s easier than you think. With these tips you can take steps to ensure your family remains healthy and hygienic around your home.
