Claire Tilley - Scentsy Independent Consultant

Just over 9 years ago our lives changed for ever with the arrival of Matthew and Ben. I didn’t have an easy pregnancy and at 30 weeks the sonographer noticed that there was something wrong which was diagnosed the next day as twin to twin transfusion syndrome. We had a tough 3 weeks of long scans and lots of monitoring. At 33 weeks on the Friday morning of the Queens Jubilee weekend I had a caesarean and thankfully Matthew and Ben made their appearance into the world. Matthew weighed in at 5lb 2oz and Ben was 4lb 5oz. We were so lucky the boys were really strong. After a few minor complications we were allowed to go home just over 2 weeks later on the 15th June, 2002 the day before father’s day and my husband’s birthday. That’s when it all really started and to be honest the first few months are a bit of a blur. We slowly got into a routine and then I had a number of gallbladder attacks which ended with me in hospital. It was decided that it would be best for me to have my gallbladder removed that happened when the boys were just over a year old. They were amazing! It was unbelievable how 1 year olds would not allow me to pick them up but would happily sit next to me. Once I had gotten over this, things were ok and then Matthew had a febrile convulsion which lasted for over an hour and a half. We found ourselves in Southampton Paediatric Intensive Care Unit with Matthew on a ventilator. Thankfully we were soon home and getting on with our lives.

Those early years were a very isolating experience for me. The reactions of so many people when we first found out we were expecting twins was one of how are you going to cope, rather you than me and so it went on! I think a lot of the negative comments had a real impact on me and after a couple of years I finally broke down and admitted things weren’t great! I had some input from a counsellor from my doctors’ surgery and she helped me to get out of the front door! If my husband was at work I had become very withdrawn and the boys and I would spend a lot of our time at home playing and all the normal things but just to get out of the door became a mammoth task. Her help was just what was needed. I am just so glad the doctor asked the question “are you alright?” In a way that really felt like she wanted to know! This in turn caused me to burst in to tears but it got me the help I really needed. We got the boys into a playgroup and then into a nursery school and so I started to meet people. It wasn’t really though until the boys started school that I started to find me again. Forms came round about becoming a school governor and there didn’t seem to be many volunteers so I thought I would apply. I found I wanted to be involved more and more and it was a good substitution to me working. I felt like I was contributing something. A few years later I took it on myself to try to get a group of parents together and it worked for any school where they are saying parents don’t want to be involved I am sure it is more about how parents are asked. I am now the chair of our school friends and have got to know a lot of people. I got back into some part time work a couple of years ago. Just so that I could get out and about as Claire but now I have something new that fits in around my commitments as a governor and as a member of the friends. I can choose when I want to work and it is totally up to me how I run things. Scentsy came to the UK in April this year. I found out about it earlier in the year and found a lady in Canada who has been an amazing sponsor. She has guided me through everything I need to know and if I ever have a problem she is there! Scentsy is an electric wax warmer that uses a warming plate to gently heat fragrant wax. It uses no flame and because of this only fragrance is released into the air not soot.

At present there are 25 warmers and 50 fragrances. There really is something for everyone. Scentsy is so flexible. They don’t give any scripts, there are no dress codes. Whatever works best for you as an Independent consultant is fine. There are a couple of restrictions about the logo and general rules re direct selling. The product itself is fantastic. The Scentsy warmer melts the wax at only 52C . A wax bar costs just £5 and can last up to 80 hours. To have a look at the warmers go to https://clairetilley.scentsy.co.uk

There is also the opportunity to become a consultant and do what I am doing. For only £85 plus p & p you can get started as a consultant. If you joined my team and I became your sponsor I would fully support you and help you as you get your own business established. I would provide ongoing training and support. Go to https://clairetilley.scentsy.co.uk/join for more information or contact me.

As a consultant you could do home parties either traditional all turn up at a certain time ones or you could offer hosts an open house where you can set up a kit and then return later to collect it. There is also the option to do basket parties which as mums of twins or more may be a great idea. You loan a kit of Scentsy products to someone for a week or 2. They take them off to their friends and family and return the kit with the orders. All 3 ways earn the host rewards.  If you would be interested in more information about having a party go to https://clairetilley.scentsy.co.uk/host

As a consultant you can also attend shows/ fairs and set up a stall. You can also run your own fundraisers the list is endless. At the moment there are only a small number of consultants in the whole of the UK so it is a fantastic time to become an Independent consultant.

Oh and I must just say we had a new addition to the family last year. The boys were over the moon at the arrival of a baby brother Nathan. He has enriched our lives so much. I think for me the best thing about Scentsy (apart from the fabulous fragrances) is that my children want to be involved they are helping me sort orders, they are labelling bars and they are loving going out to events. It is getting us out as a family and it could do the same for you. Being your own boss and working Scentsy around your family makes it a great option for those who like me would like a more flexible lifestyle.
