"no matter when I need someone to talk
to there is always someone there. I feel like I have gained
hundreds of best friends all from the click of one button

Diary of a Twin mum
by Lindsey Gray
Easter Saturday. Woke up bright and breezy despite having
been to friends for dinner last night - I drove which meant I was
one of the few at the end of the night who a. Knew where I was,
b. Knew who I was, and c. Knew how to get back to where I belonged.
If you haven't done it recently, I can thoroughly recommend staying
sober while your friends get trashed - it's so entertaining (although
I appreciate a lot of this was probably novelty value!).
Easter Sunday. Our first Easter Egg hunt for friends - we
totalled 9 kids and 9 adults, the kids had to find half a dozen
eggs each. 54 eggs over 5 acres took quite a bit of finding - especially
as the men had taken hiding them a little too seriously (Simon,
put that spade away!!). We had hard-boiled the eggs then put cute
little Egg Wraps on them from Lakeland - very sweet!! Egg hunt was
followed by girls vs. boys at rounders - no need to ask who won
- go girls!! Sunday lunch for 18 was fun, followed by 80's trivia,
but unfortunately then things get a little hazy! Seems I went to
sleep before my guests had left, and I had a very bad head on Monday!
Easter Monday. Despite feeling like death, Easter Monday
meant a 3 hour car journey to visit friends holidaying in Sutherland.
Beautiful coastline, fabulous place, wonderful company and at last
I felt better. Alex (twin 1) developed bad car-sickness (or was
he just copying Mummy?!) so the journey was even longer as we had
to stop lots of times. My friends Dad suggested some car-sickness
tablets for our next long journey (tomorrow) - I felt so stupid
for not thinking of it, poor Alex. Isn't it funny how sometimes
it can take someone to state the obvious before it hits home ?
Tuesday 13th. Our house swap begins today. We're frantically
packing and cleaning as we're going to Edinburgh, and Edinburgh
family are coming here. We don't know each other, but are both members
of house swap agency Homelink (www.homelink.org.uk). Set off on
long car journey and we haven't even reached the bumpy bit before
Alex wails "oh no, not again" from the back and is promptly sick.
Poor Alex! He's so upset, I feel bad because I should have sorted
out the Kwells by now, but we stop off in Braemar and pick them
up. On to Perth, stop off for new front tyres at Kwik Fit and lunch
at Pizza Express. On to Deep Sea World, £30+ lighter and exactly
1 hour later, we head on to the Edinburgh house.
Wednesday 14th. Edinburgh house is fab - boys love it. I
picked it on the basis that the family have boys roughly the same
age as mine, so the toys should fit!! First stop today is the Edinburgh
Dungeon, although twins are only 4 and I am shocked at myself for
exposing them to anything quite so vile, they love it. Museum of
Childhood doesn't grip them quite so much, but is a parent-pleaser
cos it's FREE!!
Thursday 15th. To Leith. Cinema is only £2.50 each with
some ticket thing from the Dungeon yesterday, and as back home we're
50 miles from our nearest screen, it's a must. Scooby Doo 2 is lots
of fun - everyone enjoys it. Small popcorn, medium coke and bag
of Maltesers is, wait for it, £7.80! I'm standing there like a lemon
with a fiver, thinking where shall I put the change! After the flicks
we do the Royal Yacht Brittania. You get a wee handset to listen
to which tells you all about stuff onboard. Oliver is now 7 and
can cope with this, but the twins are too young and I have to disembark
early to take them to lunch. After lunch (Ma Chalmers or something
- completely rubbish so won't go into detail) we take it in turns
to skim the shops/police the children and then head off for supper
at friends house nearby.
Friday 16th. Dynamic Earth, a sort of sciencey place. Started
off well, but peaked too soon and left us wondering if people who
designed it had ever heard of Disney, fun, entertainment, etc etc.
Up to castle to listen to 1 o'clock gun (no boys, we're not going
in the castle, we're going to listen to it from the car-park)...(because
boys, it costs £25 for us all to get in, and we only want to listen
to the gun, and it's five to one now...) BANG, back home.
Had a great week - spent an absolute fortune despite only being
stung for one attraction gift shop - boys loved it and best of all,
the Edinburgh family had a good time too.
