Diary of a Twin Mum (Jane Pullinger - g&t)

Saturday 8th
Boys woke up at 6.20am - I need to explain to them the meaning of
weekend!!!. I took them downstairs. Fed them their usual breakfast,
dressed them, put them in walkers, played with them and at 8.30am
I put them down for their first nap. 'Where is Dave?' I hear you
ask ….in bed!!! 9am woke Dave up and we went off swimming. At the
pool, girl behind the till was an ex student………just what I like
to see when I haven't brushed my hair, or waxed my legs and have
a beautiful post preggers shape. I took George into the changing
room - this is a tactical move as Thomas screams his head off when
we come out, George giggles. Great time in the pool, George swam
(with arm bands) and is golden child for the next hour or so. Mum
arrived 5 mins after we got back, Dave went to work and I rushed
off to get legs waxed. Came home, fed boys, got washing out of the
machine, and put new load in. Played with the boys, mum went off
to the hairdressers. Boys had their second nap at 2.30pm. 3pm Dave
home, it is absolutely pouring down, so we got our next door neighbour
Nina to mind the boys, while Dave dropped me off at the opticians.
Met my mum at 3.30pm. This was the first time I have been in town
without the boys, I had forgotten what its is like wondering around
shops, double pram free. Came home at 5pm, new load of washing in,
played with the boys, cooked tea. 6pm, I cleaned the kitchen and
lounge whilst mum and Dave bathed the boys. I fed George and then
had to feed Thomas as he was having a mummy moment and was refusing
the bottle from Dave. Boys in bed and fast asleep by 6.30pm. Mum
left about 8.30pm, I then deserted dh and spent the evening on Twinsclub.
I really should spend more time with him.
Sunday 9th
Boys woke up at 6.20am AGAIN, but this time I made Dave get up and
I stayed in bed till 9.30am. Got up, checked Twinsclub, showered,
took washing out of machine, put a new load in and took the boys
off to ASDA. Came home left the boys in the pram asleep, cooked
Dave's lunch and made myself a sandwich, made the boys lunch just
in time for them to wake up. Dave fed the boys, we gave them a bottle
each, put them into walkers and had our lunch. I did the ironing
and then we went off to see one of Dave's sisters. Came home and
put Dave and the kids in our bed for a nap ( I think Dave was the
first one asleep) and I logged onto Twinsclub, then prepared a veggie
curry for tonight and got washing out of the machine. Woke the boys
up at 4.15pm and fed them tea, put them in the pram and took them
for a walk. Came back at 5.45pm, stripped them naked and put them
down to play. Dave and our mate Dylan bathed the boys at 6.30pm,
fed them and they where in bed asleep by 7.15pm (lets hope they
sleep a little longer tomorrow). Ate dinner, thinking this was perhaps
a bad move, Dave doesn't handle veggie food too well and my bedroom
will be full of strange odours later on. Put last lot of washing
on. Logged on to Twinsclub, for an intended 5 mins, 2 hours later
I left to spend some time with dh. Thomas started crying in his
sleep, so he ended up in our bed.
Monday 10th
I woke up to a VERY aromatic bedroom and showered at 6.45am, Thomas
awake by the time I came out, so I dressed him and ordered Dave
into the shower. 7.15am I went and woke George up, dressed him and
took them downstairs, fed them breakfast, made Dave's breakfast,
we fed them bottles then Dave went off to work, and me straight
onto Twinsclub (boys fell asleep at 9am). Boys awake at 9.30am,
spent now till 12pm playing with them either on the playmates or
in their walkers (this activity is beginning to feel like dodgem
cars at the fair). Fed the boys, had my lunch, put the boys in their
pram and went into town. Dropped Dave's suit off at the dry cleaners
(Thomas peed on him), took summer hats back to M&S (they were far
too small) dropped into say hello to one of Dave's sisters, went
to ASDA came home. Put the sun tent up in the garden and attempted
to trim the hedge. This was abandoned as both the boys screamed
every time I turn on the hedge trimmer. Bought the boys in, fed
them, the mil arrived, 5 mins after she left my brother and his
girlfriend turned up, they are house hunting, both are teachers,
but with house prices they way they are the two are getting really
depressed. Dave arrived home early, I cooked my yummy diet tea and
prepared a much nicer meal for Dave. Bathed the boys at 6pm, fed
them and they where in bed asleep by 7. Went to my friends for the
evening, leaving Dave to do the laundry.
Tuesday 11th
Dave got the boys up this morning, and by the time I had showered
he had the two dressed and fed, we gave them a bottle each. I put
a new load of washing in, took a load out and hung it on the line,
took a load out of the dryer. Made our breakfast, had a quick peek
at Twinsclub. Played with boys in their walkers, they are now (at
long last) really inter-acting with each other, they push their
walkers close to each other, hold hands giggle then move off, it
is really cute to watch. Boys down for a sleep at 9am. My hv Rachael
arrived at 10am for their monthly check. (Rachael is wonderful and
the boys adore her). She is really impressed with the boys progress
and they now weigh as follows : Thomas 19lb 1 oz and George 20lb
13oz. The only down side to this visit is that they have missed
mother and toddler group this morning. Went to ASDA, George temp
has gone up and I bumped into a friend on the way home, she stuck
one of those expensive thermometers in his ear.39.2!!!! Got back,
stripped him off, gave him calpol then phoned the hv. George wouldn't
take water but he did drink 8oz of milk. He kept crying, very unusual
for George, so I phoned Dave to come home, fed Thomas, George would
only eat fromage frais…..3 of them. George eventually fell asleep.
By the time Dave had arrived home George was on the mend, temp down
to 37.2. At this point I put my finger in Thomas's mouth…..oh my
god a tooth!!!! Has George just done Thomas's teething symptoms
for him??? Boys in bath at 6pm, bottle and in bed by 7pm.
Wednesday 12th
All up dressed, down stairs and fed by 8am, Dave went to work early
to make up for coming home yesterday. 9am walked into town, bought
Gabby a thank you card, and took the boys to Mother and Toddler
group. They had a fab time and so did I. Came home to find their
godmother sat on our doorstep, so got Andrea to give the boys lunch
and I came to catch up on this diary. Andrea left at 12.45pm and
I put the boys down for a bit of Cbeebies, ran around and tidied
the house for the next hour. Put the boys in the pram and went into
town to collect Dave's suit and did ASDA on the way home. Fed the
boys at 4pm and then took them next door for an hour. Nina's kids
love g&t and George just adores Nina's dog. Came back, stripped
the boys and put them down for nuddy play. Our friend Dylan came
round at 6 to see the boys before they go to bed. He kept an eye
on them whilst I ran the bath, Dave then arrived home and took over
bathing duties. I prepared tea and gave Thomas his bottle, again
a tactical move, I know who has done the best naps today. After
the boys had gone to sleep I did the ironing and packed my suitcase
for the trip tomorrow.
Thursday 13th
All up dressed, down stairs and fed by 8am. The boys spent most
of their morning in walkers as I have run around getting ready for
the trip. Half of me doesn't want to go, I don't like leaving Dave
and the thought of such a long journey with the boys makes me feel
sick. Dave came home for lunch to say goodbye to the boys. He fed
them cuddled them and helped me pack the car. I left for the first
part of the trip, from here to mums, this only takes an hour but
I did it at the boys nap time to try not to disturb their routine
too much. Left mums at 5.10pm and arrived in Newcastle at 9pm. Boys
were up and awake till about 10pm, but this was not surprising.
Boys were brilliant for the trip. The room was great and they had
put two cot beds up and extra towels in the bathroom.
Friday 14th
Boys woke at 6.30 am, I got up and showered and took the boys down
to breakfast at 7.30am. Thomas was brilliant and I shall take him
to posh restaurants in future, he is now golden child, George threw
his plate of melon on the floor. Went off to Cramlington to cbmum's
twinsclub (another mum of twins who I met through this site), George
threw up more sick than I have EVER seen on the journey there, and
being the organised mum I did not have a spare top in the bag. The
twins club was great, lovely to meet everyone, but unfortunately
we couldn't stay long as we had a wedding to get back to. At the
wedding the boys did me proud, they were so well behaved and everybody
loved them, the bride had even organised little teddy bears at their
places. They were really tired today as their routine has been knocked
all over the place so were in bed asleep by 6.30pm. Mum babysat
and I went off to the night do. I have been a bit fraught and bad
tempered today, due to worrying about the boys routine too much
today, I need to learn to relax the boys have been great!
