Twin Mum Diary
by Gabby

Hi there, I am Gabby, married to Andy and we have non-id twins James and Eilidh. Andy is a head chef at a local hotel and I am now a stay at home mum (I am a qualified nursery nurse and worked full time, in a previous life I can't remember, as a supervisor in a day nursery!). We live in Edinburgh in our tiny flat and it's James and Eilidh's first birthday this week. I have so much to do! AND I have to fit in my Twinsclun addiction into all of this... I will find a way, come hell or high water I will check in at least 20 times a day!!!

Saturday 10th July 2004
It was Andy's turn to get up with the babies this morning so I was due a lie in (we take it in turns each day to get up early with them as Andy doesn't start work 'til 10am). but by 'eck between James, Eilidh and Andy you would think we had a whole nursery in the house with the noise they make! Ended up getting up at 7.20am, having a shower and then getting all annoyed with the mess and started hoovering, cleaning and doing washing! Andy left for work after giving them their breakfast. I am trying to sort out James and his sleeping problems. well LACK of sleeping really so the last two days instead of them having a morning and afternoon nap, I have been keeping them up 'til lunchtime and giving them one longer sleep. It seems to be helping as he has slept right through TWO nights in a row! Went to Asda to get gallons of milk and some jars of baby food - came home with 6 bags of shopping! James and Eilidh slept from 1.20pm until 3pm I think. I went to bed when Andy got in from work and slept 'til 5pm! Decided I couldn't cope with Eilidh's birds nest hair and more so got out the clippers and gave her and James a haircut. They both look LOVELY now! Can't wait 'til tomorrow so the in-laws can make lots of comments like "Oh, cut their hair again have you!" Gave them a bath, played for a bit and now they are tucked up in bad for the night. I hope!!! I will be having a nice quiet night, logging onto Twinsclub between watching rubbish on the telly and clearing up! Andy will get back in from work at about 10pm so I have peace and quiet for a couple of hours!

Sunday 11th July
Got up and had a quiet morning. Decided with a bit of encouragement from Sally (Sally F) to cut my hair with the clippers too today. It's short but nice! Then went through to SIL's for niece's 12th Birthday Party. Andy was working all day so we went alone to face the music. It was actually okay, well as okay as a day with the in-laws can be. I am still furious with them for telling everyone that our garden is a hellhole! I have been working so darn hard creating a space I can use out of what was a weed and bramble concrete jungle and they have done nothing but look down their noses at it. Some people are so difficult to please!!! They even had the cheek the day they got the invite to J&E's first birthday party to come here and suggest that we have it at a local soft play centre. Took all my strength not to stab the pair of them!!! Got home at tea time with two VERY tired little ones who after far too much attention all day refused their tea and went to bed early having had a bottle and a half of milk each!

Monday 12th July
James has slept through the night now for three nights!!! Feel like a new woman having all this sleep! Both he and Eilidh have a cold and are teething (but fine otherwise, they are not "ill" just snotty and a bit off their food). Had a quiet day around the house today. Andy is normally off on a Monday and Tuesday but this week he is not off 'til Wednesday cos he is then on holiday for just over a week. Can't quite decide if I am looking forward to it or not. that sounds awful but he is a bit like a third child at times, don't get me wrong, he is fantastic with James and Eilidh and very helpful with their care BUT he is one of these people that asks all the time "what are we doing today, what's for lunch, what's for tea? I am starving". Oh I can' t wait!!! Chatted to Sally and Rachael (Rachael77) on msn in the evening.for a change!

Tuesday 13th July
Today, after collecting the new hood for my Twin Aria from John Lewis cos they ripped the last one when they had it in for repair; I went to pick up my cat!!! Before James and Eilidh were born Andy and I had a beautiful black cat called Jasmine (I had had her for 7 years, known her longer than hubby!!!) but when James and Eilidh came home from hospital Andy was a nervous wreck and couldn't cope with Jasmine being around them at all so she went to stay with his brother until we were ready to take her back. I decided that given they are one tomorrow then NOW is the time! It's like he has never been away, straight back in and settled very quickly! James and Eilidh squeal with excitement every time they see her too, Eilidh does a funny wee meercat impression every time she walks past, my goodness my daughter has a long neck!!! But Jasmine tends to keep out their way at the moment! I am so happy to have her home again. Andy has already started his panicking about the cat vs. the babies. I will win him over given time!!!

Helen (Hellsbells) came round for a Coffee in the evening, which was nice, bit of grown up chat for a change!

Wednesday 14th July
James and Eilidh are one today!!! I can' t believe it, a whole year has gone past since I went into Hospital and had my section. I now can' t remember what life was like with out them and don' t really want to either! Andy is on holiday now so we took them to Deep Sea World in the morning. James LOVED it, his eyes nearly popped out his head when he saw all the lights and bright colours of the fish. Eilidh, well I don' t think she could have cared less; she just wanted to slap the glass on the tanks the whole time! Andy asked me FOUR times if we would be going to the café for something to eat while we were there. We were only there for an hour!

In the afternoon Andy's Mum and Dad came round, gave James and Eilidh ONE outfit each for their birthday (having given their other granddaughter £50 cash and a huge bag of pressies on Sunday. Nothing like making it very obvious, god I sound do bitter but its been building up for ages!). Then at teatime my Big Sister Leigh came to see her niece and nephew. She is a very doting Auntie! Brought them some lovely toys too, lots of VERY noisy ones. Thanks Leigh!

Thursday 15th July
Had an awful night with James last night, he was up or screaming three or four times. he is always a nightmare if he doesn't get enough sleep during the day or is over stimulated, he was both yesterday! I feel shattered today but LOTS to do for their Birthday Party on Saturday. Spent most of the day running around shopping, picking things up, getting the birthday cakes printed (I got the ones from Asda that you can have their photo put on), doing odd jobs in the garden to finish it off etc. Andy looked after James and Eilidh all day by himself; he is such help with them when needed! Took Eilidh to the GP at 5.20pm cos we were worried she might have an ear infection but all is well and he thinks its just a bit of pressure from her cold, which is on the mend now anyway! GP said that Eilidh is going to get anything she wants with those eyes of hers!!! Nice man! Went to Asda at 9pm to get last minute things for their Birthday party. I quite liked getting out in the evening again! Made me feel all funny actually, like I shouldn't have been there!

Chatted to Sally and Rachael again after all that when I got home!

Friday 16th July
James slept through again last night, thank goodness as today we are off to Perth for the Tartan Twins meet up at Noah's Ark. Managed to get us all ready and organised to leave by 10.45am (it's a bit like having a third and fourth child having Andy around sometimes when I am trying to get out for the a day. he is sweet, but NO help with getting ready, spends the whole time thinking about what's for lunch and has he got his fags?). Managed to get to Perth eventually, which is not bad cos I forgot my printout with the directions on it! I can' t remember everything! It was lovely to meet everyone finally. A few I had met already at the last meet up but there were a lot of new faces and I tried my best to chat to everyone but my shyness gets the better of me sometimes and I didn't manage to get round everyone. James and Eilidh LOVED the soft play bit, especially the ball pit! Must make a point of finding something in Edinburgh that's similar for them. Got home at about 5.30pm after stopping off to get pink and blue balloons for tomorrows Birthday Party. Andy's brother came round with his fiancé to clean our windows (they have not been done since BEFORE the babies were born, we have daylight again!!!!!!) and Mechelle cleaned our bathroom, a great help, less to do in the morning!!! Helen came round too with a couple of Smoby cars for James and Eilidh that Jack and Ellie have grown out of, hopefully James and Eilidh are going to LOVE them!!!!

Finally went to bed at midnight after finishing off things for tomorrow. I am going to be dreaming of rain clouds and my garden tonight I can tell. 25 people in our tiny flat if it rains. my worst nightmare!!! Maybe I should have invited less people, but it's a bit late to be worrying about all that now!

That's my diary folks, we had a lovely party and are all set for another fabulous year with me as reigning Queen of Twinsclub!

Gabby xx
