My Birth Story by Amanda (chomper7)

We had it all planned, I was booked in for a section at 36+4. We'd chosen the Friday for many reasons, my Dad (who lives the US) was flying home that morning ready for the big day, it is also Paul's birthday and his Dad's birthday. So we would have three generations all on the same birthday which would be amazing. The previous week I had been taken into hospital because one of their heartbeats had started spluttering during a listen by the midwife. After a night in hospital and a couple of steroid jabs in readiness for the op I was sent back home. All went fine that week apart from being incredibly uncomfortable!

Monday evening I had a very uncomfortable time, the babies were kicking like crazy and however I sat, stood, laid, I still hurt. 1am I was awoken by a tidal wave that was obviously my waters. Kept hitting Paul until he woke to tell him, then leapt out of bed worrying about my mattress getting soden! Called the hospital who said were they sure it was my waters....I told them I couldn't pee that much if I tried! First thing I did then was jump in the shower cause all I could think of was that my legs needed shaving!! That done we set off to the hospital, after making several phone calls to family.

When we got there they rigged me up to the machines, checked my waters had definately gone and then pretty much left us alone whilst waiting for things to happen. I was very spoilt and my Dad had offered to pay for me to have a private room so after some time we got taken in there to await morning. One bed but both Paul and I managed to squeeze on and get a bit of shut eye. A midwife came in, said I haven't seen you, smiled and walked out.... phew... By 6 ish I was having minor contractions, thought I had an upset tummy actually but midwife told me it was definatley contractions. That helped me jump the queue for theatre...yeah! We were taken thro to the delivery ward where Paul got changed into his sexy green scrubs and I was dressed in a maternity nightie and given the low down on the op. I walked to the theatre next door feeling nervous and pausing for contractions, the staff were all incredibly cheerful and made light of the situation which helped me enormously.

On the table, I had the spinal block, which I have to say was totally painless and then I was layed down (after being rocked from side to side!..apparently it helps move the anaesthetic around faster). Soon the numbess took affect and I couldn't feel my legs, I didn't like that at all, but again everyone was amazing and soon had me feeling fine again. The op started and more water poured over the side of the table!....apparently it had only been Ollies water that had gone earlier....so much water for two little men... Within minutes our first little baby was lifted out and shown to us over the screen, the most amazing sight ever. He was handed to Paul after being wrapped up and I just sat staring at my new son totally overwhelmed. We called him Oliver, he weighed 4lb12oz. He looked so gorgeous in his Daddy's arms, a great sight, he already had his mouth open for his first feed! I was then told to push....hang on a minute, I'm having a section why do I need to push! Apparently Ben was in a position that warranted it so push I did, although I couldn't feel a thing.... It worked tho as 3 minutes later Ben was lifted out (who proceeded to pee on the floor!) and after being wrapped was handed to a midwife who held him close to my face. He weighed 5lb 10oz.

I can't even remember get sewn up etc (altho I do remember requesting they do a quick tummy tuck whilst they were there.....sadly they declined), I was so busy taking in the faces of my two lovely babies, I didn't know which way to look... I was wheeled back to the delivery suite with a baby in each arm feeling pretty damned happy! The rest of the day was pretty much a blur, but I do remember feeling incredibly proud showing off our two gorgeous babies.
