Although it feels like the summer has only just begun, we all know that the kids will be back to school before you know it! Save.co.uk understands that budgeting can be an issue so has put together some tips on how to save some pennies on those back to school essentials so the new term needn’t break the bank.
In addition, Save.co.uk’s counterparts in the US have recently carried out a survey about budgeting for back to school. Some of the results may be surprising. For example:
- 42% of parents plan to buy new electronic gadgets, such as laptops, tablets, phones and e-readers for their children for the upcoming school year, even though 75% are somewhat overwhelmed by the cost of buying such devices for their children!
- Half of parents said their children’s school requires them to purchase certain electronic gadgets for learning purposes.
- More than 50% of those who did any back-to-school shopping last year plan to do their shopping earlier this year.
- 37% of parents who plan to do back-to-school shopping this year would consider waiting until after the school year starts to save money.
Get out the calculator: Don’t let surprise expenses creep up on you. Meet with your family and chart out your back-to-school budget ahead of time. That way, you won’t scramble at the last minute and will instead have appropriate time to search for savings.
Swap and Save: Get together with some of your friends that have children of different ages and swap clothes, toys and books that aren’t being used. You can save a lot on items that will still be new to your children and you’ll help the planet by reducing waste.
Do your homework: This assignment's for you, not for your kids. Take the time to do your research on savings ahead of time. Make a list of items you need to buy and search online to find the lowest price. Make sure to use a coupon to save even more money on your order.
Double up: Some shops will allow you to use an online voucher on top of sale prices, so always start your shopping in the sale section to maximize your savings.
Cut back on petrol expenses: Many stores offer free delivery, so online shop from the comfort of your home and have the school supplies and clothes you need delivered right to your door. No hassle required!
